No new iPhone announcement. Looks like no iPhone purchase on this US trip :(

focation.com

focation.com, the first non US based location startup we saw and heard about today at where 2.0

Great to see the guys here and wish them well with their venture. Looks like a well rounded web application and I look forward to visiting Vietnam soon after doing research on their website.

apple iphone sold out…

Much to my disappointment, I was just told by a friend that both Apple UK and US stores are showing the iPhone as currently being unavailable. Sux!!!! This when I was ready to go buy the iPhone and become a user of the “best thing ever” device …. oh well, will have to wait for 3g + GPS I guess.

@where 2.0

Finally got to the conference hotel. Checked in and now doing some last minute research. Looking forward to Tutorials tomorrow. The GeoDjango folk are sitting next to me busily preparing away. Good luck guys!! :)

Where 2.0

I am heading to Where 2.0 with some guys from work (Multimap.com) and really looking forward to rub shoulders with some Mapping folk, exchange ideas, drink a few pints etc etc etc. So if you are coming and wanna meet up leave a comment here and I will get in touch.

I will be attending the Rapid Geographic Web Application Development with GeoDjango in the morning and The Open Geo-Stack: OpenLayers, GeoServer, PostGIS in the afternoon.

Google Docs Presentation

So Google recently announced support for making presentation using Google Docs. I gave it a very quick whirl and decided that the capabilities available will not make great presentations. A lnk to the published version of this sample presentation is here.

Now, its great that one can publish the presentation to the web, but as creation tool it sux. Will run a test soon on how it copes with a full on presentation made using Powerpoint or Keynote. Should make for an interesting experiement as if it can cope well, then as a online presentation tool it will be brilliant.

Providing the ability to :

  1. Upload your presentation
  2. Publish it
  3. Share the URL with those that need to see your presentation
  4. Hook up a conference call either using something like Skype or traditional means
  5. Present away :)

google embeded maps

Google finally released their Embeded maps implementation. When a user searches for anything using Google Maps and then clicks on the Link button (it’s actually a link, but I didn’t want to says Link link) they get the option of using a link or a bit of html iframe code.

Now I am sure you are wondering where is the embeded map. Well, looks like wordpress does not allow embeded iframes in blog posts. Sux!!

state of the map

I will be heading to The State of the Map conference in mid July. Here’s a link to its site for more information.

Update: Didn’t get my a*&^e into gear and as a result am not going to this conference. Instead am traveling around Edinburgh. Who knows might even see the lochness monster ;)

website of the week

Well well, Multimap.com has just been marked as the website of the week on Times Online by Mark Frary. You can read that article here.

eden project

On a recent trip to Cornwall, England we visited the eden project. Well worth checking out if you are down that way. Here’s a photo I took.
